Annual Shearing

It’s time again to shear the alpacas and collect our crop. Our shearing date has finally been set and it is Thursday 5/6/2010.(We are so disappointed that it CANNOT be on a weekend this year. We switched to a new shearer this year and they could not accommodate our weekend requirement.) You are welcome to stop by and watch if you would like between 10am and 4pm.

However… the following weekend Saturday 5/8/2010 and Sunday 5/9/2010 our good friend’s, Lisa and Perry Darley, at MARANATHA ALPACAS will be having an open farm to celebrate everything alpaca fiber. We at Morning Moon Alpacas are going to load up our trailer with fiber, yarn and alpaca apparel and join them.

They will be holding back a few alpacas from the 5/6 shearing so that you can come to their farm and witness a shearing. These alpacas will be shorn at 11am and 2pm on Saturday, and at 2pm on Sunday.

Maranatha Alpacas is located at 71 Coakley Lane, Fredericksburg, VA 22406. Their phone number is 540-752-7593.The hours for the weekend are 10am to 4pm each day. (This farm is located approximately 20 minutes south of Moring Moon Alpacas on Highway 17.)

Both farms will be selling raw alpaca fiber, roving and yarns (natural and dyed). In addition there will be alpaca apparel and blankets available for purchase. Selected products will be on sale up to 40% off.

We are also planning some fiber related demonstrations such as: skirting alpaca fleeces, carding, spinning, weaving, knitting and wet felting. These events will be taking place throughout the weekend, so please come by and see a demo or even try your hand at one.

For anyone who is curious about the amazing alpaca in general, there will be educational talks ongoing both days.

Please dress comfortably in shoes and clothes that might get dirty.

So… don’t forget your camera, family (Sunday is Mother’s Day) and friends and plan to join us.

Come and get up close and personal with Cocomo.
